Press Release - ‘Sri Lanka Nature in Focus’ – Fotoausstellung in Deutschland durch Athula Dissanayaka
Botschafter Sarrath Kongahage hat die am 19. Mai 2012 in der Werkstatt der Kulturen in Berlin-Neukölln die Fotoausstellung ‘Sri Lanka Nature in Focus’ von Atuila Dissanayake, einem der bekanntesten Künstler aus Sri Lanka, eröffnet. Die Ausstellung wurde mit Unterstützung der Botschaft von Sri Lanka in Berlin durch die Sri Lanka Association in Berlin eröffnet und bildete einen Bestandteil der ‘Sri Lankan Cultural Week 2012’, die vom 19. Bis 27. Mai 2012 zeitgleich mit dem Karneval der Kulturen in Berlin stattfand.
The Sri Lanka Expo 2012, an international trade exhibition organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) with the support of entrepreneurs in the private and public sectors, was held from 28 to 30 March 2012 at the BMICH, Colombo, Sri Lanka. It took place after a lapse of several years following the successful ending of the three decades of civil conflict with the objectives of promoting trade, investment and tourism as well as instilling confidence among the buyers of Sri Lankan goods and services.
H E the Amabssdor Sarrath Kongahage was chief gust of honour at the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations in Zeppelinheim, Neu Isenburg near Frankfurt on 28th of April 2012. The function was organised by the Sri Lankan community in Frankfurt with the support of sponsor organizations and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt. The about 200 participants enjoyed a day full of Sri Lankan flair.
Sri Lanka wins the first Price for Ensemble out of more than 5000 dancers, drummers and musicians in colourful costumes from more than 100 countries at the 17th Carnival of Cultures in Berlin on Sunday, 27th May 2012. Sri Lankan pageants led by the renowned Channa Upuli Dance Group from Sri Lanka and members of the Sri Lankan community representing ethnic Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim presented a colourful and impressive formation in the parade. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has participated at the event since 2007.
On 3rd May 2012, Ambassador Sarrath Kongahage was guest of honour at the vernissage “Leben im Heim” showing impressions from children’s homes in Essen/Germany and Sri Lanka. The event took place at the Goethe Institut in Düsseldorf and was organized by Friends Kinderhilfe International e.V. and the Goethe Institut in Düsseldorf. H.E. Sarrath Kongahage met with Dr. Ms. Emily Haber, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Federal German Foreign Office on 17 February 2012.
H.E. Sarrath Kongahage, the Ambassador for Sri Lanka in Germany greeting Mr. Klaus Wowereit, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, at a reception held in Berlin Town Hall on 22nd February. The reception was organised by the Governing Mayor of Berlin for the newly accredited ambassadors in Germany.
