Sri Lanka: Yellow Coconuts and Repaired Toilets Working Group from Isernhagen returned from student exchange

sria500Isernhagen. Many schools offer exchange programmes to countries such as France, Spain and England. By contrast, the Gymnasium Isernhagen flies with its students to a completely different place every year: Sri Lanka.

The active Sri Lanka Working Group, which invested together with the Rotary Club Langenhagen-Wedemark and Wattala 27,000 euros for repairing toilet facilities in Sri Lanka, has now been able see what their donations helped to achieve. Thirteen students from Isernhagen spent together with two teachers three weeks as guests in Negombo. Riding on elephants, yellow coconuts as refreshment, a harbour tour and a visit of the partner schools St. Thomas and the Ladies College in Colombo were part of the programme as well as visits to several projects.

The joy over the visit of the students from Isernhagen was great not only in the home for children with disabilities in Weliweriya, but also in the five schools that thanks to them enjoy now good toilet facilities. Now the students are back home again. They could not bring the spring with them, however, lots of motivation to continue their engagement for the people in Sri Lanka.
