New schools for Sri Lanka - Thomas Cook supports the school construction scheme of German Agro Action with a donation over 100,000 euros

thomascookSRI LANKA. A bloody civil war raged in the north of Sri Lanka for more than a quarter of a century. A resettlement of the embattled areas has taken place since the officially declared peace about three years ago. Infrastructure, however, is largely destroyed. Thanks to the company Thomas Cook AG, one of the urgently needed schools could be opened.

Dr. Julian Clemenz, responsible for sustainability with the Thomas Cook AG, ravelled to Sri Lanka in order to hand over the school to the students. "Everywhere are visible signs of the war, also here right opposite to the new building," said Clemenz after the inauguration. "To hear the laughter of children at this place now is an unforgettable experience for me."

During his Sri Lanka trip, Clemenz had the opportunity to visit other projects of German Agro Action. He had the chance to meet local staff and to convince himself of their professional work. "Especially in a country such as Sri Lanka where the mentality is different than in Germany, we must be able to rely hundred percent on our staff," said Cesare Tavella, the project director for the area in the north of the island.
